Two Suns tea is grown on a 70-acre, family-run farm in Sandford, Devon, England. A single acre is devoted to tea, with the remainder encompassing sheep pasture, and a small orchid. The tea is produced in extremely limited quantities, with an annual yield of 1–2kg finished loose leaf tea. Every tea leaf is grown, plucked, and made entirely by hand, on the farm. Green, black and oolong teas originate from the same leaf, the difference is in how the leaf is processed. Two Suns in currently the only maker of Oolong in the U.K.
Whilst living in the Middle East, the family took the opportunity to explore neighbouring countries and venture further afield. Visiting tea growing regions and taking part in factory tours and tea tastings in Sri Lanka and Japan awakened a realisation of the depth and complexity of tea.
Along the way, Alison’s work came to centre on a holistic approach to soil, plant and environment. Devon's soft hills and famous misty rain (‘mizzle’) play a role in the tea’s flavour, an expression of its terroir. Two Suns tea carries the mark of the land and care that define its character.
